Dad Accomplishments

Last night we got Quentin to sleep without nursing for the 2nd night in a row. The previous night there was a lot of screaming and squirming. Last night there was minimal crying, and after my eyes adjusted when the lights went out at 9, I noticed he laid there in the bed for awhile awake, staring at the ceiling quietly until he actually fell asleep. Then he slept for the longest he has ever slept through the night, the whole night actually. From 9:15 to 5:15am. This isn’t necessarily a sole dad accomplishment, but it does give me more confidence that I’ll be able to handle Linda being gone for a week in December a little more easily.
Today I took Quentin to the preschool Jumbo Gym on Douglas Island where he played with all the preschool toys and kids for an hour and a half. He had a fantastic time and I think it helped wear him out a little. When we got home I started getting some lunch together for him and put on some They Might Be Giants tunes. But instead he wanted me to hold him, so I turned the music down low and he sat in my lap on the chair for awhile and within 15 minutes he was sound asleep. Much better than screaming and crying himself to sleep as previous nap times have experienced. I think he is finally starting to get the hang of relaxing and falling asleep on his own.
Quentin is also starting to really understand certain words and what they mean. If you say “Where’s your ball?” or “Do you want to go upstairs?”, he’ll go right to those things. Recently he’s been using a lot very different and new phonetic sounds amidst his garbled baby talk. I suspect he’ll be talking soon.
He’s such a cute kid.
