Visit with Em and Katherine

Tuesday, November 11th, 2008 | Linda Curtis, Quentin Curtis | 1 Comment

When we woke up this morning there was the a slight dusting of snow on the driveway. Sure sign that winter will really be here soon. It wasn’t to cold though, so I was able to walk into work. I just love the fresh air and smell of salt water as I walk along the highway and over the bridge into Juneau.
I had a super busy day at work. A bunch of orders came in at once, so I tried to quickly get them put away while quentin was playing with my boss. So lucky to have a boss who loves kids.
After work, I walked home with my friend Emily and her daughter Katherine. Quentin fell asleep on the stroll home, but woke as we got into the house. Katherine really wanted to play with him, but Em had stuff to do. So, Katherine stayed while Em ran errands. The kids had a great time playing and Quentin really took a shine to Katherine. He even gave her hug with no prompting from me.
I was also able to get dinner ready, (buffalo spinach rice combo thingy) and unload the dishes while Katherine kept Q occupied. All and all a productive day while other folks played with the kid.
We had an early dinner, and after I made a batch of my famous fiberfull cookies. Mixed grain, flax, peanut butter things. Bud played with Q while I put the dough together. They are baking right now, and I have a cup of tea ready to drink when they come out of the oven. I am curious to see if Q likes them when they come out of the oven.

Savikko Playground

Sunday, November 9th, 2008 | Quentin Curtis | 1 Comment

Construction on the new Savikko Playground in Douglas was completed several weeks ago and we finally got a chance to take Quentin to check it out. The temperature was just below freezing so we all had to bundle up. Quentin wore his new Snow Jacket which kept him pretty warm. We might need to look into getting him some warmer gloves. It was a clear blue sky day, but the sun is low enough now that it doesn’t really shine on Douglas anymore. The playground hadn’t even thawed and we were at the playground around 11am. None the less, Quentin had a great time and really enjoyed the swings.

Night Weaning

Thursday, September 18th, 2008 | Quentin Curtis | No Comments

I am so happy to report Quentin is night weaned.  This means he is going for 7 hours at night with my mama milk.  After a year of waking every 2 or so hours to nurse I am feeling very well rested.  He sleeps in his crib for half the night, and then wakes up and comes into the bed with us.  He is easily coaxed back to sleep, and bud is able to get him back into the crib.  I, on the other hand have no luck getting him back in the crib.  I think my middle of the night gentle touch on laying him down is not so good.  I think it is more of a drop and roll.  Thus he wakes up.  I do much better when I am not half asleep.  I don’t mind him in the bed for half the night anyway.  He is so cuddly and cute.  And he is not waking me up to nurse anymore anyway.  He does get milk after 6 am, and he sure knows when it is time.  But then we both go back to sleep for at least another hour.

He is also walking like a pro.  In fact he has taken to a form of running.  His head is much less bruised than last week when he was having a lot of balance issues.  All and all this learning to walk phase has gone really quickly.  It seems like he hardly crawled.  In mind babies crawl for a long time.  But I guess it isn’t that long after all.
