presents
Happy Holidays 2009

December always has a lot going on each year. This year the Budinda family stayed in frigid Juneau. Quentin got his first haircut at the beginning of the month. Basically we slowly opened presents as the month went on. We first opened some presents at the beginning of Hanukkah, then some on Solstice, and then some Christmas morning. We even opened a few after xmas which arrived late in the mail.
During Solstice we had a crystal clear night and there was a rare blue crescent moon with a prominent Mars & Jupiter in the sky. The snowcapped Mt. Juneau & Mt. Roberts contrasted the long -18 hour- night sky.
On xmas eve we had shrimp pasta over at Bret & Jorden’s. For dessert we had homemade toffee pudding by Bret, homemade cinnamon ice cream by Linda, along with Bret’s homemade butterscotch sauce. It was very tasty, but I was already filled up on Jorden’s yummy shrimp pasta. Quentin played with Bill Kozlowski’s old Star Wars action figures which Bret still had hanging around. Q even managed to come home with another R2-D2 that actually beeps! Thanks Bret.
New Year’s was very cozy. We stayed home all day and played with toys, watched some truck videos, and relaxed. After everyone had gone to bed I stayed up surfing the web. When I heard some crackling outside I realized it must be fireworks and that it must be midnight now, so I too then went off to bed.
Breaking News: Quentin to turn Two in 16 Days

Dear distinguished family and friends, I am proud to announce that in just sixteen days I will be turning two years old. This is a big milestone for me and I’m sure it is a very big day for everyone else as well. I have learned a lot over the years, and most notably-how well I can make a blog post for one. I can now say the word “No” with much more conviction and obstinacy than I ever could before. I have learned that everything in fact does belong to me, which is great by the way. I’ve also developed a fine sense of humor using a stylized form of irony when I scream at my parents every time they say, “Use your inside voice please.” LOL, that never gets old.
So, this year if anyone would like to join me in my second year birthday by getting me a gift, I would be so grateful. I am starting to out grow my old baby toys and I have a few things in mind that I love playing with when I am over at my firends’ homes, yet I don’t have anything like it at my own house. In addition, I have been growing quite a bit lately. I can almost reach the counter now, which means my clothes are starting to get too small for me.
Let me preface the items listed below with, if anyone finds a good deal at a garage sale or thrift store, that would be just as appropriate, and you could probably even get more for me for the money you spend. I know at garage sales you can find old matchbox & hot wheel toy cars, and at thrift stores or consignment shops you can find toddler clothes in 3T or 4T, and even shoes in size 6 or 7. However, below are a couple items I’ve listed for ideas if anyone is interested, or you can check my updated Amazon Wish List.
Thanks again! ~Quentin
Time for presents! and getting ready to go!
Thursday, December 18th, 2008 | Bud Curtis, Family, Linda Curtis, Quentin Curtis | No Comments
We decided to make tonight our holiday gift night. We were hoping Toni would be here, but her plane is terribly delayed. First she missed a connection, and her arrival of 1pm kept getting pushed back. As of this writing she is due in around midnight. Let’s hope it’s not later than that! I am sure she is going to be super tired, and I have her bed all ready for her with my favorite set of super cozy sheets.
So, since I am leaving and will be gone for all upcoming holidays tonight was the Curtis celebration.
We started with Bud’s favorite dinner. Baked chicken. I also made some peas and brown rice to go along with it. Then on to the presents. We actually had opened our family present weeks ago, and have been happily playing on our wii for some time. Tonight, we opened up some new accessories for the wii – very nice. We also opened up some fun gifts for Quentin. From his mammy and grandpappy he got a little CD player. Which actually doesn’t play CD’s, but looks like it does. It plays music, and makes animal sounds. I must say – it was a huge hit. Quentin was walking around with it like a boom box from the 80’s and dancing like a fool. He also opened up a box with a cute stuffed animal in it, and then had a good time putting it back in the box. Then taking it out, then back in, then out…
It is currently out, and I am sure he will enjoy giving the reindeer hugs.
He also got a very cozy winter outfit, probably great for next year. We got some super exciting honey, 2 gigantic bottles – can’t wait to use it in some of my baking. In fact, since I have 5 hours to kill until Toni gets here – I think I will make some carrot cake. Also – a lovely tote bag, cute turtle shirt, and maybe the best of all the lot – handmade chocolate truffles of all different flavors. My goodness, it is a good thing I am off to the spa for a week after I dug into that treasure chest of yummyness.
I am sad to say good bye to my husband and son for a week, and can’t believe that this trip we have been planning and preparing for is finally here. The initial plans were made over a year and half ago. I think I was still pregnant. And now it is finally time. By a fluke of milage ticket and peak vs. saver fare costs, I am flying first class in the morning. Oh, it’s a rough life.
Yesterday, we received a Potty in the mail from Quentin’s Uncle Kyle and Aunt Renee. Q isn’t quite sure what to make of it, but I have high hopes for Bud and Grandma Toni potty training him while I am away. I am sure it will be no problem. I mean, how hard can it be?
Yesterday, we also went to a kindergarten class to talk about Hanukkah. It was quite an eye opening experience. I haven’t been to kindergarten in a long time. Wow, is it crazy – all those little kids running around. Trying to get them to grate zucchini for zucchini latke – not so easy. Luckily my friend Mariya was in charge of that. I was in charge of chasing Quentin around. He had a blast. He knew some of the kids in the room, which made it extra fun for him.
So, this is my last blog entry until my return. I may take some time to do a mid-week at the spa entry. But hopefully I will be to blissed out to do so. I hope everyone has a wonderful holiday – what ever holiday they are having. I am so grateful for all my wonderful family and friends – and especially my wonderful husband and son.
