weekend adventures
Sunday, December 13th, 2009 | Family, Linda Curtis, Quentin Curtis | 2 Comments
My camera was getting full of pictures from the past two weekends, so I thought I’d make a quick slide show. The highlights of the past two weeks have been hair cuts, star wars, playtime with friends, and trying to get outside in some very cold weather.
friday with friends

Quentin had a great day yesterday. He started out the morning in school, while I ran errands. Then his friend Miles came over and they played with trucks, ate lunch, and played on my old office chair. They love to spin. Then it was nap time. Next up – a play date with Meadow and Elyas at the Taylor’s house. A very full day.
A busy fall friday

Quentin and I had a really busy day this friday. We woke up early and had blueberry pancakes. I mean – buttermilk blueberry pancakes. Which is a family favorite.
Around 9, Jill and Elyas came over and Jill went for a run while I played with the kids. They had a great time, and Jill had a fun run in the rain.
Next up – Jumbo Gym. The gym had been closed for the summer, and with school in session again – the gym was open. Quentin was able to do so many more things than he had been able to do last spring. He could climb everything, and ride on a bunch of the scooters that I used to have to push him on. And Joy of all Joy – there was a tractor scooter at the jumbo gym, and a fire engine scooter. Both were in hot demand, but Quentin got to take them both out for a spin or two. When it was time to leave, I had to drag him kicking and screaming out of the gym “Ride Tractor!”
In fact, it kinda put him a mood for the rest of the day. He fell asleep in the car on the way home, took a nap and woke up and asked me if he could “ride the tractor.”
So, we snuggled on the couch and watched some scenes from the movie cars. I thought this might get his mind off the scooter. But it was a constant mantra throughout the day. Moving on –
Early friday eve we headed over to Sonia’s house for a baby shower/blessingway for Debbie G. She was one of my midwives and is my doctor. So, I was super excited to go to a party for her. It was also her birthday on tuesday, so I made a cake. Which is one of my favorite things to do. It was a buttermilk poundcake with raspberry jam, and chocolate frosting.
Quentin came with me to the party, but was not to excited about it. He walked in the door and said to sonia “No Sydney House.” Sydney is of course the toddler of the house. Great way to make your self welcome. He wouldn’t take of his coat or shoes, and sorta played with the other kids (clara was there!) until I decided to take clara and quentin to the park. Oh the fun. They ran, swung, climbed, slid, screamed, jumped and hooted for almost an hour. Ani came and took them for a chunk and I was able to go back to the shower. Just in time to make an awkward wish for Debbie for her new journey in motherhood. She has helped me so much in good and bad times – it is just to emotional for me to put into words. So, I just told her it’s a bad idea to order chinese food while you are in labor. I stand by that statement. After being at over 1000 births, it must be a little scary to be doing it yourself for the first time.
Anyway, when Ani, Quentin, and Clara came back into the house it was time for dinner. Quentin still wouldn’t take off his jacket or shoes. He and clara shared some food together and then pushed each other around in a stroller. Then Quentin saw the cake – and all of a sudden he wanted to take off his shoes and coat. Amazing – the power of cake. He doesn’t really like to eat it that much, but the thought of it is a strong motivator.
After such a busy day, we came home and Quentin didn’t want to read any books. He fell asleep in 10 minutes and slept until 7:30. Over 10 hours of sleep is a lot for our little guy, and I must say I feel quite rested!
New Tent for Quentin

Dinner with the Taylers went well. Everything turned out yummy – but I took to long to post recipes. Now – I can’t remember exactly what I did. Basically, I made a bechemal sauce with spinach and layered cheese, salmon and rice lasagna noodles with it. Peanut butter cookies – just your basic garden variety.
Quentin and Elyas had a good time playing together and even took a bath. This was very good. Quentin had been wearing his tractor shirt for 3 days and was bracing for a fight that night. It was pretty dirty and so was Quentin. He loves his tractor shirt and asks for it everyday. But – when he saw Elyas naked while his Dad was putting on his PJ’s, he wanted to be naked too! For the first time ever he wanted to take off the tractor shirt! Which in my world, is a pretty big thing. I have gotten him other shirts with large equipment on them, but for some reason Quentin is most happy with his blue tractor shirt on.
I scored a free indoor tent system this week. It takes up our whole living room when fully assembled. Quentin loves to run around it. He sometimes goes inside. I have put away some of the pieces, – but of course he notices and asks for his tent. He sometimes even says – “Tent Please.” We have been working hard on saying please and thank you and not just grunting all the time. He will usually use a word when prompted. But seems to naturally like to grunt him communication. Oddly, I am able to understand most of his grunts now.
We had a visit with Quentin’s pediatrician this week. He continues to be in the 10th percentile for weight and 50th for height. She said he looks great and he is now only has to have yearly check ups. Very good.
Berries
Friday, July 17th, 2009 | Family, Linda Curtis, Quentin Curtis | 1 Comment
Quentin and I had a very busy day today. It was friday, which is my day off from work. Jill and I took the kids out berry picking/hiking in morning. We didn’t manage to collect many berries, as the boys mostly ate them as we went. They both did really great walking the trail. It was a beautiful morning, and the air smelt so wonderful. It was very nice to be outside with the kids. On the way home from the walk, Quentin fell asleep in the car. It was kinda early for sleep, but nap he did. While he slept I picked berries in our yard. The salmon and blue berries are really great this year. I managed to get enough for a crisp while he slept. In another week the berries will be even better. I hope I get to them before the bears do!
When Quentin woke we went to the park and played for a bit. He had a great time playing with the other kids you happened to be there. He also spent a good chunk of time on the swing. His fave. After the park, we came home and had a snack. Some crisp and yogurt! Yummy! Then a little calm time watching a dvd before it was time to take the bus into town for an evening musical performance. Oh, never has a 2 year old enjoyed public transportation like my son. He usually will point out all the main parts of the bus. The Wheel! The Steering Wheel! The Door! The Mirror! Then he brakes out into his version of The Wheels on the Bus. This consists of a couple bars of mumbling followed by a couple of very loud “BUS” lyrics. When we got to town, we popped into the library and found a DVD called MEGATRUCKS! Can’t wait to watch it.
Next up was the evening entertainment. There was a toddler music concert in the park tonight, it was about an hour. Quentin enjoyed it for the first half. He did a couple of his famous dance moves, and also sat sweetly with his friends. Then we wandered around the park, Quentin trying to run down the boat launch ramp, and me trying to keep him from falling into the water. I must say, that was not very relaxing for me. It was also a bit frustrating for Quentin not to be able to go check out the floating docks. Someday.
Next we met up with Bud/Daddy, and came home. We spent the rest of our evening watching pictures on the TV. Bud has set up the computer/tv screen saver with a slide show of our lives. It was fun hang out and look at pictures. Now I am exhausted, and better get to bed.
